Another Nemesis' event has seen the Underworld in Camden packed with the usual 'unusual' crowd celebrating this time the much-expected Clan of Xymox. Wrapped up in their black attire, the two ladies wearing light PVC, in the typical atmosphere of a goth gig, the band certainly exhibit from the beginning that stereotyped style so common to many groups gravitating around this musical circuit. If you surely could consider their sparkling hits A Day and Stranger first came out, you might be disappointed with the new material of the last album, not so influential and original as in  the past. Not bad either. In the same and successful way as the last two years from their return, they propose a well balanced song selection ranging from the early stuff to the more recent, more into the CURE and THE SISTERS' vein. Undeniably an enjoyable gig, but where is the originality? Isn't it a bit of cliche having a few impaccable goths on stage, modulating macabre sonorities and hardly moving from their assigned spot? There is the feeling lurking in the back of our minds that the new Clan of Xymox  tend actually only to imitate the old ones... Nevertheless the fans were happy, no trace of disappointment on their faces: it was just what they had expected. From the most celebrated Cry in the wind, Michelle, This world to the new Jasmine & Rose, Creature, Taste of Medicine, to the great Going round and Out of the Rain , Clan of Xymox master their audience with static elegance and remarkable professional competence. Perhaps they might benefit from a more relaxed image and a less rigid performance on stage...certainly a very refined show if not a really energetic one!
